Natural Immunity Support Anglesea

If you’re sick and tired of getting sick and tired then it’s high time you boosted your immunity. It’s cold and flu season here in the Victorian winter-the cold days, the wind and days of less sunlight create a perfect environment for us to get sick. But, it’s not all bad news. With the right adjustments you can boost your immunity in just a few simple steps.

How to improve your immunity

  1. Look after your gut: Your wei qi or defense from external pathogens (i.e. the immune system) depends on a healthy gut to be at its strongest. The best way to look after your gut is to eat according to the season. For winter this means plenty of warm, well cooked soups and stews. Think bone broths, braised meats such as osso bucco or lamb shanks, seasonal greens, root vegetables. Swap your granola or toast out for a warm porridge in the morning with cinammon. Eat less raw, cold foods and go easy on the coffee.

  2. Stay warm: During winter it’s important to conserve your energy. That means rug up and protect your core. Wear warm socks, scarves, beanies and gloves.

  3. Move: rug up and walk. Moving is a great way to beat the winter blues. While your activity should naturally decline through the winter, it’s important to still keep active. Exercise not only helps circulation, it’s a great mood lifter too.

  4. Get acupuncture: acupuncture not only has a regulatory effect on your nervous system, it stimulates a response from your immune system as well. Winter can be a great time of year to check in with your acupuncturist for a tune up.

  5. Use immune boosting herbs: ginger, cinammon, licorice are all fantastic herbs that have traditionally been used for centuries to help with immunity. The good news-you can start using most of these in your cooking already. Add fresh or ground ginger to soups, stews. Drink more herbal teas with licorice and cinammon.
